Finally! I created something instead of griping about something.

Yesterday, I decided it was time to quit whining and griping about stuff I can do nothing about, and just get into the "studio" (read here..my dining room/studio) and just create. In keeping with my goal of sending birthday cards to my fellow choir members, I made these two.
The first one is for my good friend, and fellow tenor/baritone. I used more of a collage construction for his card. It says nothing about being a birthday card on the outside, but has an appropriate message inside, plus a "tribute to music" that I found years ago that I though he would enjoy. This guy is, like I said, a very good friend, quiet, yet so funny and and big tease to everyone. Especially to our choir director. He and I have a lot of fun teasing and harassing her as well as the soprano section which is seated directly in front of us.  Sometimes, our choir practices on Wednesday evening can become chaos, but the fun kind.
The second one, was made for one of our sopranos' whose birthday is later in the month. She is an older lady (older than me by several years) a widow, has a beautiful, well trained voice, and can still hit those very HIGH notes. She is a quiet, but fun person to be around. She is a former pastor's wife, so there's a innate quiet grace about her. I thought a card that addressed her birthday, and nature, yet was more uncluttered was appropriate.
I also made an anniversary card for a couple celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary tomorrow. I did not photograph it as I had to get it out for the post quickly so they would get it on time. But it had a bird theme, also. Obviously, I love these "sketchy bird" stamps by designer Dina Wakley. I stamp them in permanent ink, then watercolor them, then cut them out. On this one, I used some foam dots to make the bird stand out a little.

Postage went up the first of the year, so I am glad I bought some "forever" stamps back in 2018. I love sending cards, so I will bear the cost of the postage. I sure couldn't drive to someone's home to wish them a "happy" whatever for the price of postage, and making a card gives me satisfaction and a feeling of self worth.

I am NOT one of those people who thinks that just because I spend hours making a card that the recipient needs to hang onto it forever. If it gives them even 30 seconds of pleasure, then goes in the "round file" so be it. After it leaves my hands and home, it's theirs to do with whatever.

Hey people, Spring is coming. Don't forget to "spring forward" your clocks before you go to bed on Saturday next (3/9/19) so you are on schedule for your Sunday.  And...I noticed that maybe, just maybe, it's going to get a bit warmer by then. And rain, but it's Indiana, it's HS basketball tourney time, and we all know that's the time of the year that the weather can "go downhill or uphill" in seconds!!

Until next time,
Go! Create something!!

  1. I like both of these. The first one really tells someone of your love of music and the second your love of nature. You do such beautiful work and I'm sure that the people that get your cards really appreciate them. I think I have kept every one that you have made me. I keep them in a binder so I don't loose them. They are very special.
